CKD Classification (Estimated)
| Stage | GFR Range | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | ≥ 90 | Normal or High |
| Stage 2 | 60 – 89 | Mildly Decreased |
| Stage 3a | 45 – 59 | Mild to Moderate Decrease |
| Stage 3b | 30 – 44 | Moderate to Severe Decrease |
| Stage 4 | 15 – 29 | Severely Decreased |
| Stage 5 | < 15 | Kidney Failure |
1
Not for Acute Failure: MDRD is only accurate for stable Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). It should not be used in Acute Renal Failure (ARF).
2
High GFR Bias: This equation tends to underestimate GFR significantly when the value is >60 ml/min/m².
3
Medication Adjustment: Medications should be dose-adjusted based on the most recent eGFR, especially cutoffs at <60, <45, and <30.
